Some restaurant operators were considering that credit card tips may need to be paid on payday, rather than nightly. The visionaries would actually work towards implementing these strategies and hoped there would not be an employee rebellion—but not for a few more years.
One of the cutting edge companies that began acting on these strategies was a major Utah area ski resort. They were considering the purchase of a new resort-wide POS system that would coordinate seventeen of their food and beverage and private event outlets and push a portion of credit card tip distribution to payday. They needed a solution that would seamlessly automate the tip distribution process from the POS system to paycheck preparation—and they wanted it with their new POS system. After a number of meetings with Dale Southard, the prototype of this new kind of tip distribution system was created for a solution that was tightly integrated to their new Micros 9700 POS system and could be launched shortly after the Micros installation and before their 2009-2010 ski season began. This became the inspiration for the first version of TipsSender, and some of these concepts are still intact today.
The trends creating the pressure for tip distribution solutions continued to grow and the POS industry continued to lag behind on addressing accurate sophisticated tip distribution needs. Every new POS installation that came across Dale's desk had the same questions about managing tips without using manual check out sheets, or spreadsheets, or some combination thereof.
In August of 2011, Dale addressed this need by creating Tips Sender, LLC. On May 11th, 2012, the TipsSender web services portal was launched.
Since then, the TipsSender web portal has added a vast array of features never even dreamed of in the days leading up to it's launch.
